Head of CG

Reporting to the ECD

SB is an award-winning Creative Production Agency with an international reach that produces beautiful imagery and digital solutions for Brands and advertising agencies.

We were the original pioneers of digital retouching in 1991, and one of the very first post production studios to fully harness the potential of CGI and develop in-house capability. Today, we continue to innovate and stretch creative and technical boundaries, with fully integrated production that encompasses everything from CGI, motion and VFX to shoot production and VR.

We’re looking for someone with a blend of exceptional creative and technical skills, with a proven track record of managing teams to join us as Head of CG, working collaboratively across all departments within the business to effectively and efficiently ensure smooth delivery of all projects.



Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the CG & VFX artists, developing their practices & behaviors (ie QC’ing own work, and being aware of the time allocated to a task) with the long term aim of instilling ownership and responsibility.
  • Mentor, teach and evaluate artist’s development and work with the senior artists to support them mentoring the more junior staff.
  • Oversee all CG & VFX work from concept to completion ensuring the highest quality standards are delivered within the project schedule.
  • Problem-solve creative & technical problems under tight deadlines whilst showcasing strong leadership skills
  • Benchmark frequent operations and drive workflow and pipeline process improvements to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Review the development of onboarding processes so staff and freelancers joining the team are trained appropriately and can get up to speed as efficiently as possible.
  • Work closely with other heads of department to ensure best working and housekeeping practices and conventions are rigorously maintained and foster a culture of open communication and collaboration.
  • Work closely with the Head of Production, Producers and SB Creative Directors to develop CGI & VFX work and timing plans for new project opportunities and drive the production of proofs of concept to help win creative pitches.
  • Coordinate the direction of project kickoffs, progress reviews and post-mortems with Head of Production.
  • Work with Producers to allocate resource to projects, matching people, hardware and software to best meet the briefs.
  • Work closely with the Talent & Culture Manager to develop the most efficient and productive core skills base across the in-house team.
  • Identify artist tool requirements both department-wide and for ad-hoc projects, communicate the priorities to Pipeline and manage the resulting testing and final implementation.
  • Be responsible, pro-active and take ownership for all tasks assigned



Required Skills

  • Expert knowledge of Maya, Nuke, Houdini, Arnold, Vray (cameras, models, textures, lighting, animation)
  • A strong eye for detail, composition, colour, lighting, and form
  • Good analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Client facing and pitch presentation experience

  • Programming and coding experience and knowledge
